The new BMW M2 may be liked and disliked for many reasons. On the one hand, it boasts a clean inline-six engine with no electrification and a six-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels. On the other hand, it has two displays that resemble tablets and is significantly bigger and heavier than its F87 predecessor.
The compromise would be to get the G87 in all-black if you don’t like the look but still like the idea of a sporty coupe. An M2 in Sapphire Black with several Shadowline enhancements and black wheels is shown in a new walkaround video from a Swiss dealer. The 50th anniversary emblems for M and the red brake calipers are the sole colorful accents on the exterior. It features a matching black inside that has little accents of the three M colors.

Despite the fact that the new M2 is also available with a manual shift, this particular vehicle sports an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission. BMW provides the clutch pedal as an extra or free alternative in addition to the automatic, depending on where you reside. You probably won’t be able to select the gearbox for the M2 CS because the hotter variant is apparently due at some time in 2025 and will only have two pedals.
For the sheer reason that the M2 G87 is probably the last M vehicle to forego hybridization and still provide a three-pedal system, it should generate a few more sales. Looking at the bright side, it will continue to be produced for a very long time. According to sources, the final vehicle will be put together in July 2029. In the meanwhile, BMW will undoubtedly add additional colors, the aforementioned CS version, and perhaps xDrive to the tail-happy little car. Undoubtedly, an all-paw M2 is rumored to be possible, but not until 2026.
The M2 G87 is anticipated to last longer than the basic models of the M3 G80 Sedan and M4 G82 Coupe by at least a year, therefore logic dictates that it will be BMW’s penultimate production model to use a conventional gasoline engine paired with a manual transmission.
