For some time now, it has been anticipated that the color palette for the current BMW M2 (G87) would undergo an expansion later this year. Recent reports suggest that the names of two colors expected in the latter half of the year have been unofficially disclosed: Twilight Purple and Grigio Telesto, both well-known selections from the Individual portfolio. While this information has been reported by BMWblog.com, it is important to note that official confirmation is still pending. However, it is evident that the addition of these vibrant purple and deep gray shades could significantly enhance the appeal of the M2 to a broader audience.
Even more significant than the broadened color choices is the anticipated increase in performance slated for the second half of the year, boosting the output to approximately 480 horsepower. This would bring the BMW M2, powered by the biturbo inline-six-cylinder S58 engine, on par with the entry-level variants of the M3 and M4. Furthermore, the M3 and M4 are expected to undergo a facelift this year, potentially accompanied by performance enhancements in select variants. Additionally, the launch of the new BMW M2 CS and an M2 variant featuring M xDrive is not expected before 2025.
The current BMW M2 (G87) already boasts a more extensive color palette compared to its predecessors. For instance, the 1 Series M Coupé (E82) was primarily offered in just three colors throughout its production run, with unique shades like Java Green introduced only in the final models. Even the initial M2 (F87) had a relatively limited range of color options, despite the later addition of hues like Sunset Orange, Hockenheim Silver (as part of the facelift), and Misano Blue (exclusive to the M2 CS). At no point did the regular program include more than six colors simultaneously.
Upon its market launch, the current M2 (G87) presented five available colors: Zandvoort Blue, Toronto Red, Brooklyn Grey, Sapphire Black, and Alpine White. Recently, two matte paint finishes, Frozen Pure Gray and Frozen Portimao Blue, were introduced as well. Grigio Telesto was previously featured on a BMW M4, while a visual representation of Twilight Purple can be observed on a BMW M340i. The provided visualization offers a glimpse of how this new color option could potentially complement the aesthetics of the M2.
